Jacinto Ciria Cruz was a basketball player who played for the University of Santo Tomas and represented the Philippines in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He was part of the team that won the gold medal in the 1930 and 1934 Far Eastern Games and placed fifth in the 1936 Berlin Games. Upon his retirement, Cruz coached the University of Santo Tomas and the Colegio de San Juan de Letran College, leading the latter to the championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In World War II, Cruz joined the Far East Air Forces. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese and executed in 1944. Later, a public sports complex in Pandacan, Manila was named after him.
