Meliton Santos was a former basketball player who competed for the men’s basketball event in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics held in Findland. The team managed to rank equally with Czechoslovakia, Mexico and Egypt in the 9th place during this time.
Before joining the Olympics, Santos was part of the Philippine team in the first Asian games held in New Delhi, India. The team brought back the first Asian diadem for basketball with a 4-0 wins.
After his stints in the Asian and Olympics, he also had a special participation in the Harlem Globetrotters and New York Celtics world tour visit in Manila wherein he played with Manila Aces against Celtics in September 1952.
