Sambiao Basanung was a swimmer who competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics and the 1952 Summer Olympics. At the age of 25, he competed in his first Olympic Games. In the men’s 400 metres Freestyle event, he finished 6 th in heat five of round one in 5:21.5 time, failing to advance any further. In the 1,500 metres Freestyle event, he placed 3 rd in heat three of round one in 21:05.9 time but failed to advance to the semi-finals. He competed again in the Summer Olympic Games in 1952. He placed 7 th in heat one round one of the 1,500 metres Freestyle event, clocking 20:58.6 and failed to advance to the finals. He was listed to compete for the 400 metres Freestyle but did not start in the said event
