Ciriaco Baronda wass a Filipino athlete who competed in the men's high jump at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. Following in the footsteps of Simeon Toribio and Andres Franco, Baronda became the top man in 1956 with Franco's retirement. Over the next 15 years he became the number one high jumper of the Philippines. In the Melbourne Oympics, he cleared the qualifying height of six feet, 3.2 inches but failed at six feet 5 and 1/8 inches to land 17th place out of 24 competitors. He manage to place fourth in the Asian Games in Tokyo in 1959 before finally winning the bronze medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta when he cleared 1.95 meters. He broke Toribio's record with a 2.03 which stood for 30 years.
