Ulpiano Amistoso Babol was a swimmer who competed in the men's 400 metres Freestyle and 4 × 200 meters Freestyle Relay events at the 1956 Summer Olympics. He was the youngest of five brothers who were all orphaned at a young age and lived with extended family in Cebu City.

In his youth, he practiced swimming in the nearby shipping ports of Lapu-Lapu. At the age of 17, he was discovered by a local swimming coach and offered the chance to attend Far Eastern University (FEU) in Manila to hone his skills on the swimming team and study business accounting.

At the age of 20, he was chosen to represent his country at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia where he finished 30th place in the men's 400 meters Freestyle event and 11th place in the men's 4 × 200 meters Freestyle Relay event.
