Amelita Alanes was a sprinter who competed in the 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m events of the 1972 Summer Olynpics in Munich, Germany. A native of La Carlota, Negros Occidental, she was Asia's sprint queen in the 1970s, holding three sprint records in the junior divisions and winning medals in regional competitions.

At 20 years old, she competed in her first and only Olympic Games. She made it to the quarterfinals of the 200m. When she got home, she won the gold medal at the 1973 Asian Track and Field Championships in Manila with an 11.6 seconds in the 100m. In 1974, Alanes registered 11.4 seconds in the 100m which stood as the National Record until 1987 when it was eventually broken by Lydia de Vega.
