Marte Samson was a basketball player who competed in the summer Olympics held in Munich, Germany in 1972. Munich Olympics was one of his memorable moments, not only because it gained him honor to represent the country, but also brought him fear and wary as this was the time when the Palestinian terrorists attacked the Israeli athletes in the Olympic Village in which he was a few meters away. The Philippine team placed 13th of 16 with wins over Senegal, Egypt, and their great rival Japan during this time.

In 1971, he was selected to be with the Philippine team in the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Championships in Tokyo, Japan, which awarded him ticket to the 1972 Olympics.

After the Olympics, Samson entered the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association), the most prestigious basketball league in the Philippines, playing for Tanduay and Royal Thru-Orange and participated for five seasons until 1979.
