Narciso Bernardo was a basketball player who competed at the 1960 and 1972 Summer Olympics. He began his career as a basketball player during the time of the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) in the Mariwasa team and was one of the top scorers.
He made it to the Philippine team at 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, finishing 11th place. He was with the team again at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and played for 13th place against Japan, winning 82-73. He was a mainstay of the national team for nearly a decade, helping the Philippines win gold medals at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta and the 1967 Asian Basketball Championships in Seoul. When he retired, Bernardo embarked on a coaching career which was highlighted by the last championship of the Crispa Redmanizers in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in 1984 before it disbanded. He later on took up administrative posts in the PBA and the amateur league. He suffered a heart attack in 2002 while jogging from which he never recovered until his death six years later. He has been inducted to the Philippines National Basketball Hall of Fame.
