Rafael Recto was an Olympic competitor for sports shooting in the 1972 Olympic Games, hosted by Munich, West Germany. The Olympiad was joined by 121 nations.

Borin in Quezon City, Recto competed in the mixed 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event, with 62 contestants from 39 nations. Recto joined the contest with fellow Filipino Tom Ong. With each shooter firing 60 shots each, Recto ended his stint with a 533-point scorecard - 188 (8 seconds), 185 (6 seconds), and 180 (4 seconds) respectively.
