Joseph Eric Buhain was a swimmer who competed in the 1992 and 1988 Summer Olympics. He ventured into swimming as advised by his doctor having been born with primary lung complex. He is a champion swimmer who won several SEA Games medals for the Philippines.

During the 1992 Summer Olympics, he finished 18th place in the Men's 4x100 m medley, 38th place in the 200 m medley, 36th place in the 100 m butterfly, and 30th place in the 100 m breaststroke event. In the 1988 Summer Olympics, he finished 32nd in the men's 200 m butterfly, 33rd in the 50 m freestyle, 31st in the 100 m butterfly, and 44th in the 200 m freestyle event.

In his final SEA Games in 1993, he captured the gold in the 100-meter butterfly before announcing his retirement. All in all, Buhain won a total of 13 gold medals for the Philippines. He later on became a sports administrator and served as chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission and the Games and Amusements Board.
