Hector Begeo was a three-time Olympian representing the Philippines. He is the national record holder in the men's 3000 meters steeplechase. He also placed second in the 1983 Asian Athletics Championships and third in the steeplechase at the 1982 Asian Games. In his first Olympic Games in 1984, he competed in the 3000 meters Steeplechase event and finished 10th in heat two, clocking 8:53.70. He is the only Filipino to advance into a semifinal in the 3000 meters Steeplechase in an Olympic event during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, he competed in the same event and placed 11th in heat two. He also represented the Philippines at the 1997 World Championships.
