Rene Gamarcha Herrera is a track and field athlete who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. He qualified for the Olympics after winning silver at the Hong Kong Intercity Athletics Championships and becoming a five time gold medalist for the Southeast Asian Games.

Herrera started running during high school although, for a time, he was primarily an amateur boxer, competing in that event until the age 17. He entered the annual Milo marathon that he won, enabling him to qualify for national competitions. He made his Olympic racing debut at the age of 33. Herrera finished in 41st place, with a time of 14:44.11, his personal best in the 5000 m. Herrera is a Philippine Navy seaman, 2nd class and serves as coach of the Philippines national athletics team.
