Carlos Yulo was born on February 16, 2000, in Malate, Manila. In the early years of his journey, he started training for gymnastics when he was just 7 years old when his grandfather Rodrigo saw potential. In 2009 he joined the Palarong Pambansa in Tacloban, representing NCR, and emerged with his team with gold. His international debut was at the Melbourne World Cup in 2018, and he scored high in the same year at the Asian Games. His debut in the Olympics was at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Finally being back at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he made history, becoming the first Filipino gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal. Following his second golden win at the Games in the vault, he scored an almost perfect 15.116 points, becoming the first-ever multiple-time Olympic champion for the Philippines.
